National Safety Month 2020

By June 5, 2020 No Comments

We all face risks throughout our lives. The fact is, unintentional injuries have been increasing for decades and are now the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. To help reverse this trend, NYC Shanty with support from the National Safety Council encourages everyone to keep each other safe during the month of June. Safety doesn’t take a break once the clock strikes 5 p.m. and you’re free to leave work. Safety is a topic that should be addressed to every employee because accidents lead to downtime, absenteeism, low morale and a rise in insurance and related costs. Safety also ties into quality, pride and loyalty for the customer, your business or organization and for self esteem.
Each week throughout National Safety Month in June is an opportunity to make a difference in your home, work, and community. Identifying risks around the home or improving safety standards at home and in your community protects everyone. Whether you increase first aid and emergency awareness through drills or provide water safety tips for summer recreation, you are taking steps to provide a safer neighborhood. This year, each week of National Safety Month highlights a different theme.
Week 1 Mental Health: We will focus on employee wellness and how the principles of physical activity and proper nutrition can help us live safer and healthier lives. This year you can get involved in the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Challenge, this is a program which promotes physical activity and good nutrition. This amazing 8 week program is a great way to help manage and reach your health goals. Anyone age 6 and older can sign up.
Week 2 Ergonomics: Ergonomics is about designing for the people, fitting a workplace to a user’s needs all the while increasing efficiency and productivity and reducing discomfort.
Week 3 Building a Safety Culture: We will focus on fall prevention because falls are one of the leading causes of injury and emergency room visits, and especially dangerous for older adults.
Week 4 Driving: We will feature safe driving as motor vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of work-related deaths.

During National Safety Month this June NYC Shanty & National Safety Council are promoting the importance of practicing safe behaviors 24/7. And remember

Have a Happy and healthy month of June.
